Saugerties Stallions Roll Past Oneonta Outlaws, 12-3, Behind Balanced Attack

The Saugerties Stallions used a relentless offensive effort and steady pitching to power past the Oneonta Outlaws, 12-3, on Thursday night at Cantine Field. Saugerties scored in every inning but the eighth, piling up 15 hits and taking command early to secure the home victory in PGCBL action.

The Stallions struck quickly, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning when Ryan Recio doubled to center to drive in Danny Suroweic and Michael Hannah. Saugerties continued to apply pressure, scoring two more runs in both the second and third innings to build a 6-2 lead by the end of the third.

After Oneonta briefly cut into the deficit in the top of the third—thanks to an RBI double by Matthew Mayer and a run-scoring single from PJ Strand—the Stallions responded immediately. In the bottom half, Nick Croce scored on a wild pitch and Magnus Krieger singled in Cooper Schmidt, restoring a four-run cushion.

Saugerties kept the offense rolling in the fourth, as Danny Suroweic singled home Michael Hannah to make it 7-2. The Stallions then broke the game open in the fifth, with Mike Cuello delivering a two-run single to center that scored Nick Croce and Steven Ramirez, pushing the lead to 9-2.

Oneonta managed its final run in the sixth when Fabio Marquez singled in Vincent Duffy, but Saugerties answered with another run in the bottom of the inning on a Recio RBI single. The Stallions capped their scoring in the seventh when Cuello launched a two-run homer, bringing home Cooper Schmidt and stretching the advantage to 12-3.

The Saugerties lineup featured contributions throughout, with seven different players recording hits and six players scoring at least one run. Michael Hannah led the way at the top of the order, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Mike Cuello had a big night as well, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Ryan Recio drove in three runs on two hits, while Magnus Krieger added a 2-for-3 performance with a run, an RBI, and a walk.

On the mound, Landon Seipp started for Saugerties and delivered four solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout. Jace VanValkenburg followed with two innings of one-run ball, and the bullpen combination of McCoy Rothe and Alex Slater closed out the final three frames, yielding just two hits and no runs while striking out four.

Oneonta was held to seven hits and managed just three runs, two of which came in the third inning. Stephan Clark was a bright spot for the Outlaws with a 2-for-4 night, while Matthew Mayer and PJ Strand each drove in a run. The Outlaws’ pitching staff struggled to contain the Saugerties bats, surrendering 12 runs (all earned) and issuing 10 walks.

Saugerties did not commit an error until the late innings and capitalized on their offensive opportunities, leaving little doubt as the game wore on. The Stallions’ ability to score in nearly every frame kept the pressure on Oneonta and allowed them to cruise to a comfortable win.

The victory lifts Saugerties to a strong showing at home, while Oneonta will look to regroup after the tough road loss.
